I can get this cheaper at (fill in any box store here).
I get this statement a lot, and I feel here at the bathery and the bookery, that our prices are on par with other handmade shops. We are more expensive than big box stores because everything is hand made. Often, with our bath products, they are made as ordered so things you receive are fresh. With our bookery, which is what I want to focus on today, you will find our prices on par with other handmade books and paper products. Again, they will be higher than the box stores.
The last time we attended a market, someone looked at an expensive junk journal, then looked at the person they were with and said, "it's just glorified collage." Okay, maybe I do collage with some of my personal and specialty products, but a lot of work goes into the pieces we create. Seamy A and I sit and think, I talk to him and bounce ideas off him. I make prototypes and I make way more mistakes than I'd like to admit. I do it because it's fun, and because of that I can generally brush comments like that off, but for some reason, it stuck with me.
I got the idea to make a sped up video of a very simple hand bound book. All the pages are the same size, the cover is one paper, and it is sewn in a long stitch with each pamphlet sewn in separately to keep the pages as flat as possible for the user. I'll stop talking. Here's our video:
We hope you take a minute to listen to my voice and see what makes the bookery the bookery!
